Combat sport has become a sport for kids whose parents can pay. Gold Coin is for the kids it leaves outside: no money, a hard home, nobody to drive them. The door should never be the thing that stops them.

Where it started
A gold coin in a tin at the door.

A PCYC gym in West Sunshine, in Melbourne's west. Four o'clock, every day, a gold coin in the tin at the door. The fighters' class was free. Gear and gradings were pay-when-you-can. If you had a coin, you were in.

How it works

Get them through the door. Then keep them.

  1. A gym keeps the door open

    A gym offers a free first step to a kid who can't pay. It's the gym's own offer, shown on its page.

  2. Turning up is the test

    No forms and no means test. Show up and show respect, and that earns the next step.

    A concession rate, an ongoing discount, or a way to earn their place through the sport.

  • Gyms can offer a free trial. A gym that claims its page on Data Fight Central can say it offers one to a kid who can't pay.
  • No cut, ever. If money is given to Gold Coin, Data Fight Central's fee on it is set to zero.
  • The Gold Coin room in the DFC app, with a one-tap disguise screen.
